Aquatic crustaceans of MANY types are fossilized in amber from 23 mya Mexico, but amber comes from tree sap - how did crustaceans get there??? We think the fossils may come from estuarine mangroves. Shown here are ostracods, copepods, isopods, and even CRAB.

We would like to share the complete artwork catalog of Delphine Mestdagh, called "Beyond the Twilightzone". The 32 portraits of deep sea inhabitants are bundled and published by Woodbridge Publishers. The informative content written by Delphine is supported by marine biologists prof. Ann Vanreusel and dr. Lara Macheriotou of Ghent University and prof. Gudrun De Boeck of Antwerp University. Another huge thanks for their help creating this work! DSBSoc supported Beyond the Twilightzone with a beautiful endorsement. For #Crustmas I will give you so many ostracods, with calcified shells enclosing the body. These are myodocopes: "Giant" (3 cm) Gigantocypris with mirror eyes, bioluminescent sexual displays in the Luxorina, eyeless cave dwellers like Spelaeoecia, and SO many fossils (here with pyritized eggs)

We moved this guy into a tub because we were confident it was still alive, and we were right.

It’s a dumbo octopus, or umbrella octopus, which are a group of deep-sea pelagic (open water) octopuses.

After a couple small tissue snips for genetics, he went back into the ocean.
