i hate that eventually the moms name will disappear cause we tend to pass it on our dad’s, so i passed on to my son my moms family name. and then removed my last name(father family) and added my husbands to mine.

it is a terrible system lol. my fam is from brazil and we have 2 last names, my brother in law keeps having his name mixed up in documents because they will put his first last name as middle name, and not recognize it’s his moms last name 🤪

i totally understand where you’re coming from. i think that’s changed with younger men(some at least). my partner was totally okay with also adding my last name, but im close to his family and not mine so i rather take his. prob wouldn’t do that if it wasn’t already a tradition tho.

for me, I would like to have the same name last name as my son and husband, as a personal preference. I’m not religious and I consider myself an active feminist, but as a personal choice we chose his name that we liked better.

it’s not possible to change your name by deed poll in the us, are you from europe? not the same process, in the us you need a court order and apparently you’ll need a new birth certificate (a marriage one used to be enough)
