The 2035 emissions standards aren't about additional emissions savings. It's about sending a message, very clearly, that EVs are the future-proof choice so that when (if?) ETS2 comes in it doesn't have to go through the roof to reduce emissions & cause rioting. The two measures are complementary.

It is indeed brilliant. Particularly since it doesn’t gloss over the fact that some people are disadvantaged, even if the overall effects are positive.

Well at least the US didn’t strong-arm a sliding back, before leaving the Paris Agreement. I guess that is some kind of success.

I think there are only 5-10 cars; most checks are by foot/bike.

Regarding data collection we are lucky to have EU’s data protection laws.
