Claiming to negotiate is enough for Trump. He can't tell Greenland from Iceland and doesn't care anyway. For Witkoff it's enough if they wine&dine him and give him a ride in a limo. For the Russian public, it's enough that their motherland is seen talking to a Serious Big Power. Win/win/win.

Oh, agreed you can take it a step further to Putin. But in many countries Putin is absolutely toxic, while star-sprangled freedom and Christian values make for a better narrative. And not sure Trump's unacceptability is long-lasting: already hearing how it's just rough love to help EU mobilize.

It has started. CNN has discussed cases of doctored and/or AI-generated clips supposedly showing people being accosted by ICE, e.g. a woman pushing an agent away. A single account mass-producing them apparently to cause outrage. Might be a Kremlin troll, of course.

An issue perhaps not clearly visible from the other side of the pond: there are already Trump stooges on the inside, in virtually every country & EU parliament, some in power or hoping to take over. Imagine Churchill but under the pro-Nazi Edward VIII & with Enoch Powell as the opposition leader.

Not just him: in Poland, the Trumpist-Orbanist minister of justice, once an EU parliament deputy (2009-2014), has recently run from an European Arrest Warrant to Hungary asking for political asylum (!) because under the pro-EU Polish government the Polish police have looked into his embezzlements.
