I have a compact S&W Shield 9mm and a mossberg shotgun, nothing fancy but fun to shoot at the range and easy enough to get good at handling (which is pretty important if you’re decide to go ahead and get one)

Kinda depends how dense your living arrangement is, if you’re in an apartment or high density urban area a lot of folks recommend shotguns bc they’re less likely to over penetrate (go thru a wall and hit your neighbor)
