I began developing Familiar in 2018, when Puerto Rico was in dire need and abandoned by a huge component of the US. It's not much in the grand scheme of things, but Diana's heritage was a small way in which I wanted to recognize the strength and resilience of Puerto Rico that is often forgotten.

I just did a re-read of Familiar and cannot recommend it stronger. It's a beautifully written, interesting world full of colorful characters where adult themes are laced throughout without feeling forced or contrived. And Soushiyo's artwork is such a delight.
