So, the enormous capacity of the Moray west field can be carried underground to a main grid substation by two massive cables. Why then does the power generated from other onshore wind farms and other renewables need to be carried on pylons? They can do 31km, so why not 3 or 4 spans and substations?

The zoomed-in pic is an innocent looking enclosure in the field about 500 yards from the cliffs. This is a maintenance and jointing pit where two massive cables join the offshore cables to the onshore cables which in turn are BURIED UNDERGROUND for 31km to a major grid substation near Keith.

If the barge poles really ARE getting shorter, I think we need to give this the benefit of the doubt and judge it on outcomes. Have to say there needs to be evidence of successful outcomes very quickly and altough happy to support, I'm waiting for a response from BiS before make my mind up.
