We have Barmbrack cupcakes! 😄

large/minicake ~30mins.

Have to admit: a big proper loaf of barmbrack is way prettier, but these little guys also make it easier for a grab & go snack 😂

I think Aster had a Pokémon evolution this weekend 😂

We have a fire-rock Turtle Cat in our midst now… so strong against bugs! 😆
A dark smoky coloured, dilute calico cat with cream coloured chin/chest & eyebrows is looking directly at the camera. Welp… we got a few Spanish black radishes harvested this year, and a very small harvest of the Hakurei/Tokyo Cross turnips!

Surprisingly, we are still getting strawberries to pick this late in the season which is a wonderful treat! 😃

EEEEEK Look! Look! Look!!! Our first EVER pear harvest!!! 🍐😍

The tree was originally planted in 2019 and this is the first year we’ve had fruit!

I’m so excited to see how they taste, but it will take a few days for them to ripen. Right now they’re rock hard straight off the tree 😂

Whoever says that they love post-workout highs & everyone should revel in the experience of “how strong it makes them feel”, has very obvsly NEVER had a chronic illness or chronic exhaustion/fatigue 😒

I truly hope that signatures acquired during this petition clearly demonstrates to this current provincial government that an overwhelming majority of its citizens value being Canadian and a part of Canada.

Could someone please explain to me why Aster has decided EVERYTHING is lickable atm? 😂

She went and delicately licked my tomatoes, mini watermelon, mangoes, the spaghetti squash (behind the watermelon) AND the corner of someone’s tablet 🤣

Aster! 😸 She was just sitting in the cat tree and decided to jump right into the laundry basket as TheHubbs was walking past on his way to (or from?) the mudroom! 😂

He ended up bringing her to the family room because he needed to finish laundry 😂

Was desperately craving some candied-spiced nuts.

Opted to make my favourite recipe but using peanuts (instead of the typical pecans it normally calls) for as well as tried the recipe in my toaster oven just to see if it would work — obviously it does 🤪

Maple-Sriracha Peanuts!
A fresh out of the oven tray of homemade candied peanuts just sitting on a wire rack to cool. Flavour is maple-sriracha and uses only 4 ingredients: maple syrup, butter, sriracha and choice of your favourite nuts 🤪

Brrrr…. it is chilly, rainy and windy out today! Seems to me this is the perfect time to have shakshouka for breakky!

At least… shakshouka-esque?

Is there such a thing as an improper shakshouka recipe? 😅
Breakfast table set for two. Clockwise from the top left corner of the photo is: a pan containing a serving spoon with the last portion of shakshouka remaining, a bowl-plate with a large 2 egg serving of shakshouka, a small crescent-shaped plate with a slice of buttered sourdough toast (cut diagonally), a round butter dish with a knife sitting on its edge (the lid is sitting just above it in the photo), a spoon & fork setting, a smaller serving of shakshouka with a single egg on top, another crescent-shaped plate with unbuttered toast (also cut diagonally). A pan of shakshouka sitting on the stove just prior to serving. There are 4 eggs nested in the tomato stew, crumbled feta sprinkled around and a smattering of parsley scattered over the top.

I have a curious question for everyone that cooks with dried herbs: Do you generally use them as is when cooking?

I didn’t realize rehydrating dried herbs makes them more fragrant, possibly more flavourful & closer to “fresh” tasting! My lazy chimichurri as example 😅

Why don’t people teach this?
A collection of ingredients used ro make something resembling chimichurri (ingredients clockwise from top left): bottle of extra virgin olive oil, a pack of Chimichurri spice blend, 2 bottles of wine vinegar, bottle of dried cilantro, a repurposed jar containing a test batch of rehydrated chimichurri sauce, a small bag of dehydrated garlic. I never could figure out how to make this bag of chimichurri spices into a proper sauce as was originally proclaimed when I purchased it awhile back. Cross your fingers it tastes as good as it smells!

We ate ragu with big tubular pasta & thick tagliatelle.

Now we have a homemade lasagne with fresh pasta sheets, ragu, shredded zucchini & cottage cheese (cuz I prefer it over bechamel or ricotta)!

Half the lasagne will be frozen along with 6 portions of the remaining ragu for future meals.

There’s 2 more hours of simmering before I can add in the sausages & cook another 30mins; then I have to remove ALL the meats (kept warm in the meantime) and then do another final 1 hour simmer.. we won’t eat til 9pm at this rate! 😵‍💫

Gods it’s so much meat 😵‍💫
