Metropolis (2001). It owes a lot more to the 1927 Fritz Lang film than Tezuka's original manga, but it's really beautiful stuff. Some of the character animation is just so fluid and gorgeous it even surpasses Ghibli.

Problem is, your typical gammon doesn't know or care that Nine Jobs Nigel has far too much money to be "just an ordinary bloke". They just hear and see a man talking about getting rid of anyone who looks/sounds a bit different and that's good enough for them.
