The first photograph of Earth from the Moon by a person, taken shortly before ‘Earthrise’ (the more famous colour version), both by Bill Anders, Apollo 8, 24 December 1968.

More sad news. Talgat flew on three spaceflights, sharing spacecraft with Ulf Merbold (landing), Claudie Haignere (landing) and Leopold Eyrharts (launch). He visited ESA ESTEC a few years ago as a guest of André Kuipers, and met NASA astronaut Millie Hughes-Fulford (now also no longer with us).
