Kiana was taught from a very young age to treat the land with respect and that included the people she and her family would spend time with when they stayed somewhere.

She never saw them as "beasts".

Kiana chose to study the arcane arts and thus left for Limsa Lominsa which would eventually lead to her meeting the Scions.

Prior to that, she had been traveling the star with her parents.

The decision to go off on her own journey. If she had stayed with her parents instead of going off on her own, nothing else would have happened to her.
