A consortium of secular organizations refuses to recognize that in a few cases (e.g., sports, hormones for kids), trans rights conflict with ethicality or the rights of other groups. The Center for Inquiry begs to differ. I suggest supporting the CFI.

Not only do DEI training programs make matters worse:

1. The vast majority of Americans are not racist/misogynist
2. The few who are either don't take DEI training programs or if they do just ignore the message

People have to keep coping about genetics. It destroys their whole worldview.
The tech bro fascination with eugenics is so on brand. The idea that you could make accurate, actionable predictions from individual genotypes (with all their complex, non-linear interactions) from averaged, linearly modeled population-level genomic statistics is just another big data fantasy

Friends, I don't think bluesky is the new town square. Announced our cool new AI tool to improve education (AlldayTA.com!). Response: that I'm "only good as firewood", shame!, gross, scab...and not from randos, but from academics and a Yale Review Editor.

I love AI art. I love that I have a magic image machine that can summon dreams in a moment. I love living in the future and being able to ask for visions of a beautiful past that never was. When the machine can write as I would, I will love that too. I just want these concepts to exist.

The gnashing of teeth over not banning one dude is so delightful. So many little dictators in the responses!
Moderation decisions draw intense public scrutiny from many places. That’s why Bluesky's architecture is designed to enable communities to control their online spaces, independent of the company or its leadership. We will continue to work on empowering people with more control over their experience.

More than 75 Nobel Prize winners have signed a letter urging senators not to confirm RFK Jr.

The letter marks the first time in recent memory that Nobel laureates have banded together against a Cabinet choice. But Kennedy is a threat they could not ignore, one said. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/h...
Nobel Laureates Urge Senate to Turn Down Kennedy’s Nomination
Elevating Mr. Kennedy to secretary of H.H.S. “would put the public’s health in jeopardy,” more than 75 laureates wrote.
