I’m curious if we’ll even be seeing Tau as it is now (whenever ‘now’ even is; I’m still relatively new and figuring out the story) or if we’ll be seeing Tau at some other point in history.

Excellent point, the cost is definitely an issue. If only there were literally billions of dollars going totally untaxed somewhere that could help. Alas there is not, so we should do nothing, as that is all that is practical.
