Anne, a woman from Copenhagen telling the group the story of her International Brigader great uncle, the famous Danish poet Gustaf Munch-Petersen, killed in Aragón in April 1938. Another great uncle, a founder of Danish Communist Party, murdered by the NKVD, Moscow in 1940

Mural homage to Irish International Brigader Bob Doyle, Dublin. Since painted over, but now plaque nearby Doyle was captured during Aragón offensive+spent hellish 11 months in San Pedro de Cardeña concentration camp before being released. I recommend his autobiography Brigadista

Another item from the Walking Museum of the Spanish Civil War. 5-cent Barcelona bus ticket from successfully collectivised bus services of anarchist CNT trade union. Public transport was collectivised until the city fell in January 1939. Coincidence surely, but today's buses are black and red

All that was Barcelona in 1847. Walls, bastions and the citadel completely intact, repressing and constraining the city, making it the densest I think in Europe housing for 200,000 people competing with factories. Outside, only farmland under military jurisdiction.

Inside Hotel Gastronomic No. 1 (Hotel Ritz, now the Palace), in 1936. The most luxurious hotel and restaurant in Barcelona was collectivised by the Ritz workers (CNT+UGT) and turned into this workers canteen still served by tuxedoed waiters.
