Capitalism doesn't
December 15, 2025 at 10:35 PM
In the end, we need to stop assigning morality to systems. There's a reason Capitalism leads to bad outcomes, but it's not because it's some sort of insidious, supernatural force.

Because [your favorite socio-political-economic system] can also create misery w/ the wrong people in charge.

But when we start to think that Health Insurance companies exist specifically to make people suffer, then we start inventing scenarios to fight against that simply don't exist.

We already do that with housing, and it has led to catastrophic outcomes.

Capitalism can and often does make things a lot worse for people who don't control capital, but it's not because *the goal* is to kill people or make people suffer. Health insurance companies want to maximize profits. The downstream effect of that is that a lot of people suffer.

Rather enshittification happens only if the people who controls the capital can stand to benefit from it. (See housing regulations in California).

If it seems like any individual is going out of their way to make things awful, it's because that person is awful, not because the system desires it.

Capitalism as a system doesn't really care one way or the other about the lives of any individual or groups within the system. To that end, it doesn't enshittify things just for the sake of enshittification. There is neither a point to it or profit to be made from it.

Capitalism is a very simple concept that anticapitalists try to overcomplicate into something it's not.

Insurance companies aren't going to waste time, money, and effort actively trying to kill their premium paying customer base when they can just... do nothing and keep collecting the premiums.

Hey, I think it's still *mathematically* possible.

Also insurance companies don't actually need to do this since even *now* they just very happily let people die by denying/stalling out claims.

If anything, insurance companies trying to inception this to people is literally adding extra steps/expenses for them.

And now it's gonna be in my head for a few days.

Are...are we developing some ball knowledge?

It reminds me of the Shaq situation in Orlando where they lowballed him up until the Lakers cleared the money. At that point, there was too much bad blood. I feel the same situation developed between the Mets and Diaz.

At some point, you gotta value your players with more than just lip service.

The people voted for the stove. We must give them the dignity of their choice by giving them stove.
