Dads of K-3rd grade readers and spellers: what platforms are you on these days? I’m a dyslexia tutor wanting to connect with you.

Moms of K-3rd graders, your child isn't lazy. Their teacher isn't incompetent. You're not a bad parent. Reading struggles are draining and often go unrecognized in homes and classrooms. But once you see the patterns, you'll never look at your child's reading the same way again. Am I right?

Where are all the moms of K-3rd grade readers and spellers? What platforms do y’all love to be on nowadays? Let’s connect!

Since your child is thumping beats on tables and counters anyway, use that rhythm for 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴! 𝗦𝘆𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 are the “beats” of a word—𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 for each 𝘀𝘆𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 (beat). Follow me for more tips! #parentingsky

Don’t just tell your child the meaning of a word—show them. 🤗 Look it up together, draw it, act it out, use it in a funny sentence, connect it to something they already know. Words stick better when they have a home in the brain. What’s a 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱? #blacksky

Dyslexia is simply a different pathway to literacy. The real hurdle is when we teach children to measure their worth by how quickly they travel that path. #blackwomen

Active, fun learning is a power-up move! Children with dyslexia and/or ADHD thrive when their brains are stimulated while processing information. It’s probably why my scholars beat me in every educational game! 😝

Dyslexia isn't the obstacle; the real struggle begins when a child starts to believe the story that they can't succeed. #Blacksky

If your child isn’t reading fluently by 2nd grade, catching up gets 10x harder. So what can you do? 1) use a grid to practice reading isolated words; 2) choose books your child can read smoothly and accurately; 3) model reading the text; 4) give helpful feedback. SHARE This! #parentingsky
