So what to do. They’ve tilted the market in their favour.

Do you accept that, and let all the jobs disappear?

Or do you try and level the playing field, and say “if you attack “x” we will attack “y”. And on and on. Escalating. Inflating costs.

This is why free trade agreements exist(ed).

You sell “x” for $100 to the US market, where a US company sells “x” for $110. People buy your stuff because it’s cheaper.

The US puts a $25 tariff tax on your “x”. Your product now costs $125 to a US buyer.

You can’t compete. You go out of business. Or decide to make “x” in the US instead.
