This is well beyond a dog whistle! If you’re still excusing his behavior you’re more than enabler, you’re a participant in his racism.

Early church father, Augustine of Hippo, key hermeneutical principle needs to be revisited. Love of God and love of neighbor should be central to how we interpret the Bible. This interpretive principle seems to be missing from how many Christian nationalist understand the Bible.

This is difficult to look at but we must!

It is clear that one aspect of Christian nationalism is an attack on Blackness. Rather directly as in the attached post or through Black folks who’ve decided that norm for Christian identity is whiteness.

Today, we honor and remember the souls lost on September 11, 2001. I intentionally chose this photo as a reminder of the brief moment when our nation stood united, regardless of our differences. An all too short moment! I pray for an enduring revival of that time when we were all Americans.

If you’re reading this and you’re tempted to believe the now en vogue counter narrative about America chattel slavery, I suggest you pick up a copy of this book or any other slave narrative to read the firsthand accounts about the cruelty and evil of American chattel slavery.

60 years ago, the Voting Rights Act bent the arc of history toward justice.

It was a sacred victory won through blood, prayer, and persistence.

Today, that legacy is under threat.
But as people of faith, we know:
Protecting the vote is a moral calling.

The more things change the more they stay the same. This is from a book written by the great J. Deotis Roberts in 1974, A Black Political Theology.

Walter Bruggeman was one of my most significant theological influences on my ministry and how I teach and the Bible. May he rest in peace!

This woman claims to be a Jesus loving, Bible reading, cross wearing Christian yet she condemns empathy as a sin and embraces cruelty as a virtue.

I saw this yesterday but I didn’t want to distract from Christ’s day. The president’s comments represent an understanding of Christianity that is antithetical to the message of Christ. They reflect the mindset of someone who is cosplaying being a Christian.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor, theologian, and courageous resistor of the Nazi regime, who was executed on April 9, 1945 at Flossenbürg concentration camp.

On this date, we remember the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the 57th anniversary of his assassination. We often gloss over why Dr. King was in Memphis on that fateful day. He was there to support Black sanitation workers in their struggle to have their basic human dignity recognized.

What has history taught us about fighting would be authoritarians?

Resist. Refuse to Consent. Be Resilient. Find Moments of Joy. Refuse to Lose Hope.

Sen. Cory Booker embodied all of this over the last 24 hours.

Today, I honor and remember my mother on what would have been her 108th birthday! She meant and still means so much to me. Not a day goes by when I don't think about her. She had a wicked sense of humor, but all knew never to cross her. Continue to rest well, Corine! With all my love, Terry.
