There are still a few weeks left to apply for the postdoc position in my @NCN_PL project.👇 You can model using #FEM OR you're interested in #seismology OR structural resistance to #seismic waves? Help me test some controversial hypotheses! Let's break some rocks and calculate how they break :)

In contrast to previouse research, we show that even small #glaciers (2km long) can produce #microtextures on quartz #grains; hence, even small glaciers can be “caught” in depositional record via #SEM and reconstructed.

⚒️ 🧪

A M8.8 earthquake just ruptured the subduction zone offshore Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula. This is one of the world’s truly huge earthquakes, and a triggered tsunami is currently traveling across the Pacific ocean.

This same fault ruptured on July 20th in a M7.4, and last August in a M7.1.

Visiting Cork County 🇮🇪☘️ was a real structural #geology feast🤩
I’ll start with #boudinage, the extensional structure of a rigid layer is stretched and deformed between less competent surroundings.

When #cave columns are compressed and a bunch of fallen stalactites are lying around, one knows something more than just a gravity breakdown happened 😁

Super proud of my first PhD student Dawid Siemek, critically thinking young scientist who just published “Size does not matter: Glacial record on quartz grains from Pleistocene #glacial deposits in Tatra Mts. (Western Carpathians) revealed by #SEM

We are heading even further east to look for more of those that have not been studied, and of course look for some deformation in caves

84 caves in 6 weeks from easy walking through vertical squeezes to crawling in bugs. All between teaching, supervising graduates, admin, and PI duties. Quite a logistics🥵 Today I finished #fieldwork for #antropopression on #cave in #Nature2000 areas of the Polish Jura. I’m tired

On today's #FridayFault I found beautiful slickensides in the Między Sosnami Cave, Polish Jura. The #cave has a #gravitational origin, despite being in limestone. Few generations of broken flowstone imply its repeated reactivation. With <50km from LGM my first guess is forebulge

fruitful week in the #caves of the Drama Basin, Greece. We found some bedrock deformations, broken speleothems, and massive collapses. Now it's time to deal with the samples. 24 samples from 5 caves, sounds like a promising start to Bahadir's PhD project

Finally, after a 6-month visa battle, we started collecting data for Bahadir's PhD, part of the Sonata BIS @NCN_PL project. In Peristerionas #cave, 500m from the Drama Basin #fault🇬🇷, we measured and sampled bunch of open #fractures and destroyed (sheared and compressed) speleothems
