I’m pretty confident that Canada as the 51st state wouldn’t have a price on carbon.

Perspective.

Politics requires working with others, compromising and making trade offs.

The good thing is that I am confident the majority of Canadians understand this.

If you want to stand on binary ethical ceremony that’s your business but you can’t run a country that way

Climate change is real. It’s man made. We need to act.

None of these things are untrue but you’re going to have a hard time convincing someone they need to buy a heat pump, switch to an EV, or pay more for groceries when they have lost their jobs due to American economic aggression

we need the hybrid as we drive to PEI once a year and the range and infrastructure is not quite there yet.

That said, I'm on the waitlist for the Rivian R2 which I'm hoping to replace the Outlander with

if there was ever a person who had the ability to build consensus, inspire confidence, attract willing partners and see a major project through to completion it would not be Danielle Smith.

my guess is they (Alberta) were never serious about Pathways anyway so this gives them a reason to be.

The day construction starts on a new northern BC pipeline you all can feel free to point and laugh at me.

I drive a BMW i4 and my wife drives a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

I guess what I’m saying is that if Carney rams through a pipeline over the objections of B.C. and Indigenous peoples I’ll eat my hat. 🧢

Nothing in his previous actions, words or even authored books suggests he is an oil zealot looking to destroy his electoral chances just to build a pipeline
November 28, 2025 at 12:52 AM
you understand that caps and carbon pricing are different right? In fact, you generally only need one or the other. The entire point of a carbon price is to make caps redundant.
November 28, 2025 at 12:49 AM
OK, I understand that, but at no point in the campaign did Carney say he would never build a pipeline. He did this explicitly to try to get Alberta on board with a broader economic plan.
November 28, 2025 at 12:48 AM
so you think the lower mainland is going to vote NDP thus guaranteeing Prime Minister Poilevre? How does that make a pipeline less likely?
November 27, 2025 at 10:54 PM
and that Liberal seats will flip to NDP or Green in BC when doing so would make a pipeline MORE LIKELY
November 27, 2025 at 10:53 PM
see, I managed to have this convo without resulting to insults.

You are proving my point. The ridings that voted Liberal will be guaranteeing a pipeline even sooner if they vote NDP. I am well aware of the electoral math in BC

Have a nice day
November 27, 2025 at 10:52 PM
I don't but my in-laws do. I don't understand your point.

So you are saying BC will vote to ensure a "pro-pipeline at all costs" party forms government?
November 27, 2025 at 10:49 PM
and the idea that BC is going to flip so that the CPC wins power makes no sense.
November 27, 2025 at 10:48 PM
over something that hasn't even happened yet and probably never will.

And what are they going to do? Flip the seats to Skippy gets in? That will make it worse
November 27, 2025 at 10:47 PM
I own two EVs, I will never buy an ICE car again because the technology is inferior.

This deal is all about buying time so the transition can happen through market forces (and hopefully get past Trump). The same market forces that won’t invest in Smith’s pipeline.
November 27, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Either your argument is “this will never get built anyway” in which case, congrats that’s the actual plan anyway, or it’s, “OMG Carney wants a pipeline” in which case you’re admitting that there’s a deal to be had here with Indigenous communities and B.C.

You can’t have it both ways.
