I found this explanation of just a bit of the symbolism. I noticed some of it, but I knew there was more!

It reminds me of that bit in the opening of hitchhikers guide where humans think they're the smartest organisms on earth because they created digital watches and capitalism while the dolphins just jumped around all day and played when in truth dolphins were smarter for NOT caring about such things
