Thank you for that, it actually removes every one of the questions I had around those sets in terms of "why". I'm still learning who the central cast is - when I was playing it was Urza, Gerrard, Tzabo, and some big ass dragons (I only remember Rith by name)

Is there a good primer to follow the magic story? I'm assuming the Universes Beyond stuff don't impact the main story but looking at the last few sets I have no idea why there are detectives, cowboys, race car drivers, captains of starships, and 80's horror tropes.

Most of this is tongue and cheek but these were legit things I've learned from podcasts, youtube episodes, and website articles.

I used to play "Blue/Black Hand Control" but apparently now I'd play Dimir Discard and that's mean and no pod wants that, so I think I'll try Tergrid instead.

"Rule Zero" - A conversation that's had with a pod before a game to determine if everyone will have fun and get their decks to go off?

"[xxxx] Lands" - Tap, Fetch, Shock, Pain, and about 30 more types I can't remember.

"[Proper Noun]" - Apparently all the color combinations have names now.

"Good Stuff" - Good cards but meant in a negative way.

"Game Changers" - Soft Bans

"Bracket" - Flow chart to see where you can play soft bans or know if you're Casual or cEDH.

"Mana Rock" - Artifact that produces mana when tapped, often does other stuff. Apparently are horrible if they cost 3.

"Stacks" (Stack? Stax?) - Some form of resource control/denial that people generally get upset about

"Mill" - I knew that one, it was around back in the day.

"cEDH Players" - Sweaty Tryhards

"Casual Players" - People who talk about "mean", "get to play the game", and "stack/stacks/stax"

"Gary" - Best zombie

"DCI" - Thing that no longer exists

"Salt Score" - Something that EDHRec collects that tells you how tilted your pod will be if you play the card

"EDHRec" - A website that tells you what to put in your commander deck

"Interaction" - Playing Magic with other people, often frowned on outside of 1v1? Also, apparently you need more of this in your deck.

"Secret Lair" - A queue you line up in to spend money for cards that aren't print to demand and sometimes includes Furby

"Mana Base" - Multiple $30+ lands in deck

"Mean" - Interaction

"Get to play the game" - People want to have their deck pop off unimpeded.

"Threat Assessment" - Ability to read the table and not clouded by rage if someone attacked your Birds of Paradise turn 2.

"Pod" - a group that plays the Commander format together

My absolute favorite models from 3rd edition, they looked so good on the table

As someone who has long toiled in IT, this has to be one of the best posts I've ever seen in response to a DB upgrade running long :D Bravo.

It's been a lot of fun trying to learn how to build 100 card decks in the singleton format. I can't seem to get a deck to behave like a 60 card deck but I suppose that is to be expected.

Anyway, pulled a few cool cards today and will continue to try and figure out mono black.
