… Regardless of the answer, congratulations on focus friend, and thank you for all that you do with crash course and the like; truly, accessible information is huge (&as a librarian, near and dear to my heart), and I appreciate your commitment to it.

…as such, I gotta ask, do you have any plans to make our bean friend a firefox add-on or steam-based software(if i had not missed it being one already)? I feel like if I could block distractions on my desktop, I would unlock an unstoppable well of power the universe just does not want me to have..

For anyone looking to use Libby or another ebook-app, feel free to call your local library and ask what they’ve got—between libby, hoopla, kanopy and more, answers vary!

For anyone with a laid-back job, I can’t relate, but you CAN open libby in a web browser window and read at your desk

To clarify, I’m not a bot, but a librarian who really values this resource. It’s helped a ton of my community’s patrons gain access to books and more accessible reading, from gradeschool kiddos to elderly adults and everyone in between.

Thanks Ele, for spreading the word about this free service!!

Speaking of Libby, did you know that you can change the font size, page color contrast, & font type in the app?

OpenDyslexic is available for many books & changing the page color to black with white text or sepia with black text can be easier on the eyes for folks with visual accessibility needs🫡

Thanks 💙 and thank you for the rest of this thread.

I had a pretty rough day today, and this was a kindness my heart needed.

Have a great evening, sending you and yours (and your library) the absolute best. 🥲 📚

Thank you ❤️
Genuinely, that means a lot. If you ever have the time or energy during your local library’s open hours, I would suggest giving them a quick call to tell them that too.

I will never forget the kind wave of support calls we got this past june, and I still tear up when I think of it

As tough as the job can be sometimes, as challenging as the world may be right now, I am so lucky to come home from a job that I love and know that I helped provide for my community the same way my hometown library once did for me.

Some days that’s all I have, but most days, it is enough 😊

I hear that; I too had it rough growing up and how much the free access the library granted (to both a safe physical environment and virtually unlimited reading materials) impacted me is a large part of why I became a librarian.

Thank you for sharing, I am so glad your community/books helped you ❤️

Additionally, thanks for boosting the word on libraries with a repost !!

Your support is appreciated, no matter the district 🥹 ❤️

Hell yeah!! I’m sure you already know what I’m talking about then 🥳

Damn, it may be my day off (I’m a librarian), but I still love hearing that.

You can take the spinch out of the library, but you can’t take the library out of the spinch 😂

Public libraries pay fees for tons of databases so that cardholders and/or visitors using guest passes on computers may access them for free!!

Beyond physical materials, ebooks, and databases, they also often offer free admission and/or discounted tickets to museums and tons of free programs 📚 ❤️
July 24, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Unfortunately this is the current reality, however, there are (be they limited and severely under fire rn) some institutions still standing in favor of free-access models for handling and disseminating information !!

Public libraries are huge champions for this, being a cardholder has no drawbacks

I personally don’t love brave’s search functionality, i find that it can be cumbersome to find relevant info for the average end-user, but i mean…

copying and pasting the link to a paywalled article you found elsewhere into brave will avoid it 🧃 😎 👍

Information yearns to be free

I don’t want to spam so I won’t comment in this thread anymore, however:

Brave browser —> settings —> shields and privacy —> disable java script!! You’ll never hit a pop-up like this again (until they find some way around that too i guess lol)

Importantly, as per brave, it could break some sites
July 24, 2025 at 12:28 AM
I replied to a user whose display name is abcdef i believe; There is a (free, easy, non-paywalled) way around this through brave browser’s settings!!

I don’t interact on bsky a ton, so if you don’t want to dig through here, it should be in the top-ish area of the replies on my page 🧃 😎 👍

Anytime! Information should belong to everyone who chooses to seek it, not the wealthiest bullies on the block 🫡
July 24, 2025 at 12:22 AM
Importantly, I am adding that brave’s block scripts setting may break certain sites as per its own warnings— but hey, information yearns to be free. Keep reading, kids

I also came here from the nintendo video, and to be completely transparent, "Upbeat & chill Nintendo aquarium playlist to get to work!" is not a good title for that video.

If I ever accidentally click the youtube tab, I am mesmerized by spinny shark. It takes a full 5mins to go back to work again
