It will take a long time to realize the alternative—being a democratic country with control of its own industries—being the preferred option.

A lot of them want to go home anyway, so that threat probably isn't that concerning to them either. What they should understand is that unless serious reform happens, the next regime could be as bad or worse.

We can't expect Venezuelans suffering under Maduro to understand the global downsides of this action anymore than the Iraqis who celebrated Saddam's downfall didn’t.

I assure you, 99% of Venezuelans are happy about this Maduro was a disaster and had essentially already "stolen" the oil in the sense he completely destroyed the industry by nationalizing it.

Of course what Trump did is probably illegal and Venezuela will now become a proxy.

Maduro is rather easy to justify since he had an indictment and was an unpopular despot. These other leaders, even if unpopular with large parts of their population are democratically elected and have no real crimes to their name—tho I'm sure some could be invented.
