“Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all” (Romans 12:13-16 NLT).

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2, NLT).

Rest your weary bones and think a prayer of thanksgiving. Grateful people are hard to keep down.

The frustrating thing about Jesus is that he calls the unlikeliest people to repentance.

“Do not think of your faults, and still less of others’ faults. In every person who comes near you, look for what is good and strong; honor that; rejoice in it, and, as you can, try to imitate it; and your faults will drop off like dead leaves when the time comes.” —By Ruskin, Signs of the Times

In our journey of faith there will always be hooks to hang our doubts on. If we’re in a place where we have few doubts, that’s always enjoyable, but we need to remember that we’re probably not going to grow as fast as we would if we had a few questions and doubts.

If I was God the universe would be in trouble. The stars would probably stop shinning; more people would kill each other; salvation would only be available to those who could afford it, and grace would lose its ability to amaze. Today is wonderful because neither of us sits on God’s throne.

The only way our society and culture can ever know what God is like is for people to show up with his likeness written all over their faces and lives.

This seems descriptive of our time. May the light of truth awaken us:

“Justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey” (Isaiah 59:14-15, NIV).
