It's been quite some time since I had the chance to soak in the retro driven, psychedelic sounds of Tim Presley's White Fence. His new single titled Your Eyes released yesterday and it is everything I've come to expect and love about White Fence. The track is produced by Ty Segall, who also produced Presley's last White Fence album, For The Recently Found Innocent, way back in 2014. The new album, Orange, will be released April 24th on Drag City Records

Last week I posted Cogan's first single Honey from her upcoming LP titled Hard Hearted Woman. Yesterday, her second single Division was released along with a music video for the track and I absolutely love it. Los Angeles' Guv comes to Reno February 18th at The Holland Project in support of his new album Warmer Than Gold, which dropped on Run For Cover Records this January. Guv's sound reminds me a lot of the more pop friendly tracks from Drab Majesty in regards to catchy melodies and basslines. Warmer Than Gold is a solid album and I am enjoying it very much. After Reno's Etiquette blew the gates open with their opening set, Boulder Colorado's The Dirty Turkeys just destroyed the whole building. They performed all their songs with an energy I haven't experienced in awhile (ok, that's not entirely true, I had seen Frankie and the Witch Fingers the Sunday and blew me away). Their lead singer Brad is a crazy dude and I'm for it.

Honey Plant are Matthew Nist and Robin Lowe and this duo out of Reno have grabbed my attention with their new single Discos Dead Now Breathe. I love their sound: the grooves, the basslines, the vocals...all of it. The band have released a series of singles on their Bandcamp and their style ranges from funk, to disco, to soul to lo-fi R&B.

Evening Spirits are an awesome band from Reno that have a bright indie pop sound that I find infectious and unable to turn off. Throw in jangly guitars with some added surf rock and the result is music that is guaranteed to make you feel good. The band released an album in 2024 titled Letters to Marie and is such a good listen.

I had the pleasure of catching Reno's Etiquette last Thursday and I was blown away by their set. She blends folk with psychedelia, along with a few other musical styles. Her vocals can be haunting and beautiful at the same time. Really looking forward to this album on release.

Restless Romantics are an alternative indie band out of Reno and I'm really digging their sound. Formed in 2023, the band create tracks laced with infectious and catchy melodies attached to emotional lyrics. So far, Restless Romantics have released an EP titled Everything and Nothing which can be found here. Another blossoming local indie band I'll be following.

I absolutely adore Sonny Smith. Sonny and the Sunsets was one of the first bands I started listening to and followed when I moved to San Francisco back in 2010. My first exposure to Sonny was his track from an incredible compilation titled In a Cloud, which featured other San Francisco bands as well. It was the perfect introduction to music from the City during that time period when so much cool stuff was going on during that time.

Baby Blue is the second track off Bug Bath's latest LP, Too Much Heaven, released last month and I can't stop listening to it. Like Blackstallion featured yesterday, the band have a fairly deep discography on their Bandcamp and its been a pleasure going through the singles, EPs and LPs they have released since 2018. The band grow and expand on their heavy alternative rock sound with each new release sounding a little different from the last.

Buff is a track from Reno's Blackstallion and features on their latest LP titled 5000, released last November. There are two versions of Buff out now. The re-record version on this album is now backed by a full band and has a more heavy, shoegazey influence. The lo-fi acoustic version can be found on the 2016 debut titled Zolpidem…

I got to see Charity Kiss over the weekend opening for Frankie and the Witch Fingers and I was completely blown away. Incredible band to see live, they play with an energy and nuance of a group that has been around for decades. Another group posted today that met and formed during their high school years, Charity Kiss and been around the Reno music scene for some time now.

No Contact is the latest dreamy single from Seattle's Beach Vacation. What started out as a group of friends in high school performing at talent shows, the band blew up before the ages of 18. This was back in the early 2010's and now Beach Vacation is the solo project of Tabor Rupp. As noted in other write ups, there is striking comparisons and influences from other dreampop indie bands like Wild Nothing and Craft Spells.

The McKinley Art Center is currently hosting two exhibitions. The annual Year of the...by Lasting Dose Tattoo and MASHUP! Print Exchange by Laika Press. Both showings are live now through February 12th. 2026 being the year of the Horse, Lasting Tattoo has asked each of the artists to contribute a piece that is influenced by the animal. The art styles range from many different mediums such as painting and illustration.

The Dirty Turkeys from Denver Colorado are coming to Reno next week playing with Etiquette and Trestles at The Holland Project and I am so stoked to see this band. Their Bandcamp tags I feel sum up the band well enough as their style blends surf and americana with psychedelic rock and acid cow punk (love this description so damn much). Their album Cowboy Caravan came out last April and full of hits its hard to pick one track to feature.

Itchy and the Nits hail from Sydney Australia and Secrets is a single from their upcoming album Greetings From... which drops February 6th. I learned about this group via RSTB and absolutely dig the Aussie band's brand of garage punk. From a 2023 interview, the band states influences by bands like Nikki an the Corvettes, The Donnas and The Gizmos and I can totally see it.

Closed Curtains are an alternative rock band from Reno and these guys shred. They performed a few days ago at The Holland Project and their set was high energy and incredible (sadly, wasn't able to attend but the clips going around Instagram blew me away). Unknown Mortal Orchestra are coming to Lake Tahoe May 22nd at The Hangar and this should be a very good show. I've saw the band live about a decade ago opening for Tame Impala at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and enjoyed every minute of their set. Their latest EP Curse released last June.

When I had started up my first music blog back in 2009 (2010? dates escape me now) one of the first bands I covered was Woodsman and their brand of Colorado psychedelia. I was huge supporter of Fire Talk Records back then but had lost track of what they had going on when the blog closed a few years later and took a long break from music due to life and adulting.

LA Witch are coming to Reno end of March, performing at Cypress, to kick off their Spring tour and I'm super excited for this show.
