Pay attention to synchronicities, read between the lines and don’t rush the growth of your blessings. Speak up about your desires and don’t leave any details out. You teach people how to treat you, including the universe.

Almost done with Fourth Wing for the third time! And the cat is screaming because he wants me to fill his bowl and it’s not food time.

Of course witches got blamed for that too. The Catholics said the Black Plague was a curse from witches for killing their familiars and honestly they weren’t completely wrong.

It’s called the “black animal syndrome.” Statistically black dogs and cats are extremely less likely to be adopted over other breeds or coats and are still villainized in 2024, which is wild to me.

And thus birthed the myth that black cats and the women and Pagan people who lived in harmony with nature were also in league with a devil of a completely different religion. And this phenomenon still exists today and is observed in animal shelters across the world.

As the Catholic Church continued to grow in power they began to feel threatened by the Pagans and saw them as direct competition since the Pagans wouldn’t give up their beliefs and cats were seen as willful and having a disdain for authority like Pagans so they got lumped together.

But WHY did the Catholic Church say black cats were bad? Why were black cats specifically in league with the devil? At this time in the world Paganism was still a predominate faith and these Pre-Christianity witches lived in harmony with animals and nature and black cats were among those ranks.

So, the superstition around black cats being evil or a sign of bad luck stems specifically from an order in the 13th Century by the Pope Gregory IX on June 13th, 1233. This order stated that black cats were an incarnation of Satan and this was the start of the witch hunts we all know of.
