Running a tiny hardware shop in this day and age is always going to be a tale of ups and downs - but today...

Older chap and small lad looking in the window. 'This,' says the chap with something approaching joy and reverence, 'this is the magic shop.'

I am officially a wizard 🙂

It was just so odd. Nobody about, no cars, just random apple out of nowhere!
spookshow71.bsky.social
No idea. A small mystery in the grand scheme of things, and likely soon forgotten.

Not by be, though.

I caught up. The apple lay there, stalled, beneath the edge of the kerb and the van tyre, and I wondered where on earth it had come from. All that mad dashing, and brought to this.

It had gone the next day, of course. Once the van moved, did it continue its journey later?

Did it go on?

It just kept going, well ahead of me now, careering wildly over grates, litter, leaves. Carefree. Unencumbered by thoughts of its own mortality.

Unstoppable.

Until, of course, it did. Brought up short by that most ordinary of things, the tyres of a white van, parked just up from the church.

Out of nowhere (I looked back up the hill for hints of its origins) an apple, just bounding by me, picking up speed. It crossed a drain, began to sprint near the second pub, and then rolled without even looking past a junction where it could've met a grisly end.
spookshow71.bsky.social
At first I thought it was a rat, or more likely a squirrel from the speed and the bouncing It was quick, and oddly silent. No cars for at least a few minutes. It raced past me in the gutter, not a creature at all. Something odder.

It was an apple.

Walking to work, this time last week:

There's a longish downward road that's been there forever, houses up either side, a view beyond them on the west over the valley.

About a third of the way down, just above the first of the two pubs, less cars than usual for 0820, when movement catches my eye

I got given a copy when I was 10.

An eye-opener, for sure!

I was 47 when I started trying to learn to draw, had never done it before. That'd be 7 years ago this month. I love it 🙂

Cheers! I do all my work digitally - just sketched it out on the iPad, then coloured it later.

Next up, I'm writing up an idea for a two part Victorian ghost story for them to investigate! 👻

And whilst the party absolutely saved the life - the soul? - of the possessed young woman, the villainous doctor who engineered it all managed to flee London for parts unknown.

He'll be back, I reckon.

Ran the 4th session of Cthulhu by Gaslight tonight (and the last part of our first case) - a thwarted possession, a burning asylum, and a stolen ritual, carried out at midnight.

Players now have contacts in the police, a hospital, and a secretive group who are searching for the spark of the divine.

Cheers! I do, but I'm booked up at the moment. In the future, though 👍

I've got a sizeable handful of dried apricots left over from last week and just now I'm thinking that if I dice them up they can go in the vegetarian chilli I'm making tomorrow.

Apricot and chilli is a common enough thing, so I can't see why it won't work 🙂

Yesterday's well-intentioned October reading plans ever-so-slightly derailed by this - The Captive by Ned Beauman/Kit Burgoyne 👍
