Today in 2008, the Dodgers make one of the biggest splashes in team history when they acquire Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox in a 3-team deal. With Mannywood in full force that season, Ramirez helps LA to an NL West crown, NLDS win over the Cubs, and NLCS appearance.

What am i reading? Book 2 in the Myron Bolitar series. I have enjoyed this series, different feel than the usual crime thrillers. I have found Coben to be an excellent writer. I discovered him thru a post from one of my all time faves Patricia Cornwell.
Drop Shot by Harlan Coben.

Happy 120th birthday to the late Sam Leslie. Leslie played 3 seasons with Brooklyn from 1933 to 1935. In 1934, he pulled the unusual feat of having over 100 RBI (102) while hitting fewer than 10 HR (9). After retiring, he worked as a shipbuilder in his native Mississippi.

Happy 41st birthday to Brandon Morrow. Morrow was selected by Seattle just 2 picks ahead of Clayton Kershaw in the 2006 draft but injuries riddled much of his career. He joined the Dodger bullpen in 2017 and was a revelation, performing brilliantly and helping LA to the WS.

Happy 63rd birthday to Jody Reed. Reed debuted with the Red Sox in 1987 before going to Colorado in the 1992 Expansion Draft. He was quickly traded to LA and played solidly during his one year with the Dodgers even as the club struggled through a tough 81-81 season.

Trump’s VA is falling apart.

Support staff are gone. Nurses are scrambling. Doctors are prepping rooms and booking appointments themselves. Veterans are waiting longer for basic care.

This isn’t reform. It’s sabotage. And Veterans are paying the price.
