Vancouver's regional transit system, TransLink, is now: -moving around 90% as many people as in 2019
-has recovered ridership faster than almost any other major NA transit system
-TransLink's CEO Kevin Quinn attributes the success to factors such as frequency & density around transit stations

The head of Vancouver’s transit agency can sum its ridership recovery in one word: Frequency.

“Running the bus every 30 minutes isn’t going to cut it if you want to grow ridership.“

Many Vancouver 🚌 run every 5min or less, and the SkyTrain runs every 3-4min, via @davidzipper.bsky.social
The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery

SDOT is officially opening the E Marginal Way bike lanes tomorrow - everything north of S Horton Street.

The street won't open to two-way vehicle traffic until next week, so enjoy this weekend.

🚌 KCM increase driven, in part, but return-to-office push by major employers. By mid-2024, I saw way more people waiting for the bus in South Lake Union in the afternoon commute. Sometimes 20-35 people waiting on Fairview & Harrison for the northbound 70 bus

Another month of US transit agency data is just in, and DC's WMATA remains the fastest-growing major US transit agency, with ridership up 13% compared to last year

King County Metro (Seattle) & SEPTA (Philly) have also performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit have lost riders

Post-pandemic, delivery companies have focused on other cities for micro deliveries. The policy recently adopted by Council is intended to make it more likely to get pilots happening in Seattle

Great talk from @spottnik.bsky.social last night to kick off the #weekwithoutDriving. He set a high bar by managing the @seattledot.bsky.social without a personal or company vehicle. Enjoyed the management takeaways from his talk beyond the transportation ones.
Greg Spotts points to the finished Dutch-style protected bike intersection in Washington state, completed during his Seattle Department of Transportation tenure.

During my 3 years living in Seattle without a car, my access to parks and nature was significantly constrained. Many of Seattle’s coastal parks are hard to reach by transit. So are the out-of-town hikes.

We can do better to ensure everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of the PNW

i’m excited about #WeekWithoutDriving

i started early on Friday afternoon, taking Sounder from King St Station to the Mukilteo ferry terminal to visit a friend on Whidbey Island.

The Sounder only runs northbound during pm rush hour

Otherwise it’s a much longer trip requiring a transfer
