To put this in perspective: the Sepulveda Pass is where, in 2011, when they closed the 405 for work over a weekend people predicted "carmageddon."

It didn't happen and, in fact, traffic has gotten worse despite adding more traffic lanes.
LA Metro is moving forward what @benschneider.bsky.social called in 2024 "America's most exciting transit project": a 13.8-mile fully automated Sepulveda Corridor metro from the Valley to UCLA and Wilshire. Travel times end-to-end would be 18 minutes or less.

That’s probably for the best

The worst.

The 787-10 currently flies nonstop, per Cirium:

LAX/ORD-HND on United
SEA/PDX-LHR on BA
SEA-AMS on KLM

These routes are comparable to, or longer, than what Alaska says it can fly the 787-10 on.

Maryland: let's remove parking minimums near transit stops

Virginia: hold my beer
Looking for a little bit of good news?

Delegate Shelly Simonds just introduced a bill (HB262) in the Virginia General Assembly that would prohibit minimum parking mandates for any building, new or existing, in the state.

Just one of ~7 similar bills we expect this session @parkingreform.org

The 787-10 gives Alaska ~30 more seats in exchange for slightly less range and comparable capital and operating costs.

And, as the airline's head of fleet Shane Jones told me, the -10 can fly from Seattle to anywhere in NE Asia (Seoul and Tokyo) or Europe.
I haven't read enough about the -10 to understand why it's worth waiting for rather than taking delivery of the -8 or -9?

Charging for transit while allowing free airport access for cars leads to more emissions, more traffic, and a more chaotic airport. We could fix a lot of this by shifting charges from transit to cars at the Port Authority's airports, but the authority as currently constituted will never consider it.
Fees to drive to the airport curb are now commonplace in the UK.

US airports like JFK and LAX should seriously consider these, and the former should use the proceeds to make the JFK AirTrain free.

Controversial take: I have no issue with kids riding on a suitcase in the airport.
Kids are riding suitcases on wheels, and not everyone is amused
Ride-on luggage and scooters can help kids travel better, depending on how and where they’re used.

Right?!

Build it and housing prices will, if not necessarily become "affordable," stabilize and stop the multi-decade increases that have priced so many out of the market.

Alaska Airlines is all grown up.

The airline has a new intercontinental look to show off to the world and, in the words of CEO Ben Minicucci, is ready to “compete hard” to be America’s fourth global carrier.

Boeing advances the 737-10 to the next phase of certification.

Alaska, which ordered up to 140 -10s this week, expects FAA sign off this year and its first delivery in 2027.

“We wouldn’t have made this order if we weren’t confident in the -10 getting certified."

Maryland Governor Moore's proposal to end parking minimums for housing developments within a quarter mile of a transit stop could be a boon for building more walkwable, denser close-in developments along the Purple Line in the close-in DC suburbs (and, ofc, Maryland as a whole).
Moore's 2026 housing priorities face challenges, but also some optimism from county officials - Maryland Matters
After his proposed housing legislation stumbled in the 2025 General Assembly, Gov. Wes Moore (D) unveiled a package of bills for the 2026 session that last year's critics were giving a tentative thumb...
