Will premium travelers fly on turboprops? That’s the question JSX is asking with its new ATRs.

If they work, the airline will add more. If they don’t, it’ll return them.

But for now, they’re flying from Santa Monica to Las Vegas, and soon Scottsdale.

LA Metro is moving forward what @benschneider.bsky.social called in 2024 "America's most exciting transit project": a 13.8-mile fully automated Sepulveda Corridor metro from the Valley to UCLA and Wilshire. Travel times end-to-end would be 18 minutes or less.

Alaska Airlines is in its global era today but in the late 1980s it transformed from a local carrier into a Pacific Northwest powerhouse when it bought Horizon Air (1986) and Jet America (1987).

Alaska Airlines is all grown up.

The airline has a new intercontinental look to show off to the world and, in the words of CEO Ben Minicucci, is ready to “compete hard” to be America’s fourth global carrier.

One of the best things about #DCA: I can text @airlineflyer.net as I deplane “think I can make that train to Greenbelt in 4 minutes?”

Looked up from my laptop at @flysea.bsky.social and this water cannon salute was right in front of me (!!), Alaska flight AS1311 from San Jose. Pilot retirement flight maybe?

Transpo Secretary Sean Duffy: “American manufacturing is back.”

@economist.com: Since Trump took office, “the two-year manufacturing contraction is now hitting its third, and factories have continued to shed jobs; employment fell by 0.6% in the year to November.”

Check it out: Alaska’s new global livery.

Alaska will eventually paint all of its 787s in this livery; planes that will fly long-haul routes from Seattle. #AvGeek

Big news from Seattle: Alaska Airlines unveils commitments for another 145 Boeing planes:

✈️ 105 737-10s plus 35 purchase rights
✈️ 5 787-10s

Deliveries stretch through 2035 and the aircraft will be used for a mix of growth and replacement.

As I've noted before, the Brightline tracks pass — but don't stop — mere feet from Terminal 1 at FLL.

JetBlue is adding 2 new Fort Lauderdale routes this spring:

• 2x daily FLL-Orlando from May 21
• Daily FLL-Dallas-Fort Worth from March 12

Both are routes flown by bankrupt Spirit.

BUT, the Orlando flights could (and should) be an air-rail connection partnership with Brightline at FLL.

This brekkie wasn't bad at all, more chilaquiles than the "carnitas" that Alaska described it as.

One last stat on my 2025 flights: I tracked how I get to and from the airport (transit, bike, car, ridershare, etc.) and now have a full breakdown:

Car was my most common method by a plurality, 39%.

But transit was a close second at 34% and I managed to bike to the airport 14% of trips!
