The Global Literature in Libraries Initiative has a lovely look at comics that teach critical thinking, featuring two of our greatest philosophers… my wife, and Mafalda.

"No Rules Tonight is an exciting exploration of critical thinking, resistance, and self-discovery"

My cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com books
A woman sits in a chair holding her phone. She looks distraught and is saying "Don't leave! I can change!".

Her book (with arms legs and an indignant face, holding a small suitcase) says "You had your chance, Carol! I'm going to sit on the front wall and wait for a more appreciative reader to come along."

We’re having to keep a set of Bunny vs Monkey per class in our primary library to make it fair at the moment and it’s STILL not enough copies. In my fifteen plus years of librarianship I’ve never seen anything at *quite* this scale. Thank you @jamiesmart.bsky.social

I’ve mentioned this before, but if you’re short on cash but have an urge to shop, go to your library digital apps and browse the books, audiobooks, movies, shoes, magazines. It works really well to give you the same feeling without spending the cash. (Plus you’re supporting public libraries.) 💙📚

Incredible what you can learn from books! We’re having a browse of ‘Listified’ in the office and we’ve just found out about a species of Salamander that can go seven years without even moving! #mood
Cover of ‘Listified’ - Britannica’s book of ‘lists that will blow your mind’. Image of text: ‘Olms are a species of blind salamander that live in total darkness in caves for as long as 100 years. They can go without food for so long because they use up very little energy. In one study, scientists observed an ion that didn’t move at all for seven years.’

Never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So never stop sharing books with kids. Never stop reading to them, and helping them to read. Never stop changing lives. #literacy #kidlit #books
