I had to replace the control board of the clothes washer at our new house (1 of a few smaller annoying items that we discovered when we moved in), and my wife pointed out how it looked like a small city, which I had thought too.

What do you see in this “city”?

I call this one “Squirrel Watch”.

Happy “Nolan Ryan kicks Robin Ventura’s Ass Day”

On this day 46-year old Nolan Ryan fights Robin Ventura.” Ventura had charged the mound after being hit by a the first pitch of the at bat, likely in retaliation for both Ventura’s first inning single off Ryan, as well as Ryan’s teammate Juan Gonzalez being hit by a pitch leading off the previous half inning. Ryan was not ejected from the game, as umpire Richie Garcia said he had a right to defend himself, & apparently assumed the plunking was not intentional. Ventura was ejected, and replaced by pinch-runner Craig Grebeck, who Ryan promptly picked off first base 2 pitches later. Grebeck grounded out in both of his plate appearances afterward. Ryan got the win in the game, pitching 7 innings, gave up 3 hits & 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 2 & striking out 5. Ryan and Ventura reportedly reconciled by their first encounter afterward, in 2012, Ventura’s first season as White Sox manager. Of note: Ventura was the only batter Ryan hit with a pitch during the 1993 season.
