Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.
I try to finish non-fiction. I’ve found that reading out loud to myself helps…but also gets me questioning glances in public. I feel like, fiction should really be enjoyed, but nonfiction, if I felt it was important to pick up, needs to be finished.

How about learning about molecular handedness? Thalidomide? Wine crystals? I think a lot of people sort of learned it in high school chemistry and it’s a cool topic.

While I appreciate your hard work, let Ruth Ginsburg be a lesson to us all. Be ready to hand power over before you die, because you won’t get to decide how it happens if you wait too long. Mr. Reich, I know you are always promoting and mentoring people younger than you,but encourage others to do so!

So I just re-read “Speak” by L. H. Anderson, and I was pleasantly surprised how well it holds up. There’s no phones in it, so that’s different than today, but yeah. It was an anniversary edition, and had an interview with Anderson in the back. That made me cry.
