Writer, aspiring author, lifelong reader, and addicted to caffeine. I write sci-fi, fantasy, and occasionally romance in both long and short story format! I have a dog and two cats who are goats in a fur suit.

I also love TV, music, and video games!
Novel November! We're a week in, how's everyone doing? NaNoWriMo may be defunct, but it's challenging yourself that counts. I recently finished two classes, so it's time to make up for the time missed :)

I also wasn't joking about our collection! I lived for about half a year in Japan and so did my partner. Some of these are mine and some aren't. But , I got a huge backlog to say the least!

Also, I love that some books come with the little ribbon bookmark and fit in any bag.

I've finally been getting schooling/re-training again, five years after my almost stroke, but man, it's a bit rough lol

I found a bunch of my old Japanese novels. Like, in Japanese. Might brush off my language skills and try to read them again...

I've been working on French lately, but I never was quite able to learn to read Japanese. It's by far the hardest language to try to learn to read in it feels.

Man, it feels like the news lately is one wild thing after another this past week. Like, all year it has been, but especially this week.

Silksong came out yesterday and my partner is OBESSESSED with the series. But I kept hearing a "mreeooooow" noise. We have a basement and our cats are so stupid, they don't know how to push a door open. So I yell, "Apricot, ya idiot it's open!"

...it was Silksong on the TV.

I need to do revisions today...but new PoE2 league 👀

Also, I'm revising the sixth chapter of my book. I'm doing my line-by-line edits, and I received some great feedback some months ago. I CAN'T FIND IT 😭

Anyway, the argument turned into prompts take skill, ect. Idk, I'm bringing it up because they inject it into every story and meeting. I told them that any AI makes readers feel like the work can't be trusted. (3/3)

Idk it just irks me to argue this in a writer's group.

There's an argument I had with another author that's swimming in my head for several months now. So, they were trying to start some kind of author marketing website. Only, I told them that it's not a good idea because they used AI as the way they made trailers.

But, like, you still have to feed that author's manuscript into an AI machine. A machine you don't know what it's doing with the data. Idk, it just seemed extremely dishonest to be marketing your business like this and claiming it's "niche enough" so it's okay. (2/3)

Does anyone have some romantic comedy books they would recommend? Particularly if it has fantasy/social media elements! I want to read some before going further on the third book since its a bit out of the genre I write.

I'll stand by that one of the best ways to reinforce a new language is to play video games once you have a decent grasp of reading. Especially Nintendo games like Pokemon and Mario. Basic language, some slang, and the newer ones let you choose from like 20 languages!

Recommendation: Skinfolk by Nalo Hopinskon

This is a collection of beautifully written contemporary fantasy short stories written from a Canadian-Jamaican perspective! I ended up liking this more than This Is How You Lose the Time War, which I'm working through rn.

Book recommendation time! If you like a very short, simple read, The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar is worth looking into! I found it a very refreshing read. It involves fairies, magic lands, and some absolutely gorgeous prose.

I would like to say as a lover of the em dash, it's also best used sparingly. Especially with the rise of AI tools, it can become a clutch.

If you are seeking traditional publishing, try experimenting with other tools like semicolons or non-standard sentence structure!
A Few Words on Em Dashes

Here’s when and how to wield the em dash effectively.

🔸To indicate a sudden break in thought or an interruption in a sentence. This can create a sense of immediacy or surprise for the reader.

I created a Substack where I plan to share my writing advice. For those unaware, I have autism (and ADHD symptoms post-stroke), and writing the first book was the hardest thing ever. Revision has been even harder, so I hope I can help!

My big news is that the first two chapters of my book were chosen for a scholarship, and I am absolutely thrilled about this opportunity! It still doesn't feel real 😭
August 14, 2025 at 7:44 PM
I took a long break, but I am back. I hid away a bit to finish some stuff and I have exciting news to share later! :)

The hardest part of the process is revision. Figuring out what does and doesn't work for me. I'll probably write up a short article on it later to give advice that worked.

Been gone for a bit, this month's been a bit hellish but the biggest "Jesus Christ" highlight is that we found out the entire siding on the house we just bought right before my spouse got laid off needs to be replaced (which will be 30-40k) 💀

Halfway done with my second book! My first book still in the work and my zero drafts are always underwritten, but I needed a change of pace :)
