I love Pips but wish it wasn’t timed. The difficulty of mini crosswords is pretty consistent, but even the easy-level pips have a pretty wide range of challenge.

Thank you for that context! I grew up in an Italian neighborhood so that makes sense. Im just struck by how similar the gestures of giving the finger, biting the thumb and taking the da are. It’s never been about fingers, has it?

When I was growing up we’d point at people with our thumb between index and middle finger (I got your nose), and tell them to “take a da” as the big insult. Seemed innocuous TIL about biting your thumb at someone. Now it seems like part of a series.
