I thought the same thing when I read the article. I covered the formation of NATCA, which replaced PATCO a number of years after the strike. Many air traffic controllers don't have a college degree. But most are plenty smart enough.

I very well recall that article, or at least the fallout from it. Eighteen years, wow! I know I was at a family Passover Seder and my doc cousin, a long time foe of Kennedy, was quoted in the piece. He kept talking about Kennedy and his arrogant misconceptions.
