I take it that you've washed the board thoroughly in IPA to flush out any conductive, oxidised flux?

Yeah, the 5 yearly building shutdown for electrical testing was always a worry when I was at work... we had some nearly 20 year old spinning disks...
Though it always seemed to be the newer equipment which would suffer PSU failures.

Surely that means that there was a hidden configuration or failure mode which this test has highlighted and could have happened outside of scheduled maintenance at a more critical time?

Given the complex NTSC -> PAL conversion circuit I'd start looking at the graphics chip output and then work from there and see where the signal stops.

The only use case I can see for this being useful would be for a parent showing the same children's programmes to their toddler day after day after day after day.

I'm sure a studio could jazz it up a bit with a "Hackers" vibe and a bedroom scene or two.

I'm not sure you can actually build the original any more seeing as it uses an ancient BeagleBone board as its brains. Extremely expensive as well.
