I was thinking about how strange it is that the cupboard in a bathroom is called a "vanity unit", and then I got to thinking, what if all your furniture was named after the seven deadly sins?

* Bathroom cupboard = vanity unit
* Paid-work office = avarice unit
* Computer gaming station = anger […]

One thing that's tough for people who just join the Fediverse, like most of the folks on #theforkiverse , is that there are self-appointed experts who reply to their public posts saying that "the Fediverse" doesn't like that kind of content.

This is untrue. They don't speak for all of us […]

I'm watching people in my feed screaming at each other over Firefox's "AI kill switch" this morning with some trepidation.

As far as I'm concerned, Firefox already has an AI kill switch. It's called `browser.ml.chat.enabled`, I set it to `false` more or less the day it appeared, it hasn't […]

I really need to find a way to mute all the CES nonsense here and in my RSS reader, but just let through the round-ups at the end.

I never knew it was called the “Moylan arrow.” But now that I know, I will call it that. It’s such a super simple, yet super valuable innovation.

The Inventor Of The Little Arrow That Tells You What Side The Fuel Filler Is On Has Died
The idea came to Moylan on a rainy day in April 1986 when he hopped in one of Ford's employee fleet cars to drive to a meeting at another building.

Reevaluating My Relationship with The Internet
(AKA I need to to stop doom scrolling) > WARNING: I get a little vulnerable here in the beginning here. You have been warned. I’m sure I’ve said something to this effect in the past, even on this very blog. But I think its time I start to re-evalutate my relationship with Tech and the Internet. 2025 has been rough for a few reasons. I can just gesture at “The Horrors” that’s been making me more anxious for months now, when hurt my back by, no joke, coughing funny, and then coughing too hard that hurt it again, fighting with my allergies, and work being… work. During the summer and most of fall, I got super depressed there for a while. and during that time I was doing a lot of doomscrolling. At home, in public, and in worse in bed! This was especially bad on Youtube Shorts and on Bluesky. With YT Shorts I was mindlessly scrolling through videos for that dopamine hit, and Bluesky I was basically reposting ever anxiety that I was having. [...]
