Also I fuckin hate using traditional style brushes lol- I love the brushes with a fillable well attached to them.

Take your time with it too lol and don’t be afraid to mix mediums! I have a pallete I’ve had for 5 years now with 48 colors and it has changed how I feel about the medium entirely! It always felt beyond my reach til I got that pallete. The day it finally croaks I’ll be so sad.

Best thing I can say is experiment initially with affordable tools, take note of what qualities different papers you use with it have. Look at watercolor artists you like- what can you identify from their style that you like? Like I won’t lie I looked at artists using colored pencil with it.

Watercolor and digital art have been the hardest mediums to learn for me in terms of how long it’s taken and how steep the curve is.

Like some of it is problem solving too- I remember for ages having to really think critically about how to do lineart because I can’t seem to get that down with watercolor alone yet. I love mixed media anyways so it’s unlikely to change at the moment.

It’s still a very easy style to make mistakes with for me especially when I get impatient with it. At the same time when I look at how far I’ve come since 2018 it is very satisfying to think about! I think finding the exact tools you love also helps with this. It’s all in experimenting.

It very much has a steep learning curve compared to other mediums I’ve used. It’s very been a trial and error process finding what works with my watercolor style. Like it took at least two years of actively using watercolors before I found something that stuck for me as a style.
