If it comes to Newsom being the candidate in the general, I'll vote for the lesser evil over the Republican.

I disagree. Liz Cheney was dogshit. And welcoming her cost Harris votes. Especially when she led antiabortionists like Kinzinger and Duncan to speak at the DNC and not Tlaib or AOC or ? who had promised NOT to do anything to hurt the party.

It is not a complete list, and I am not sure if someone recanted late. But my voting pattern does the following:
1. Anybody over a Republican
2. Lesser evil over greater evil
3. Send donations, whenever I can, to candidates directly and only if polls show them with a coin-toss chance.

At such points, I normally say "have patience." Then I realize that my patience extends to a couple of decades. Nothing is going to change until the youth feels the pain and realizes that fascism cannot be overcome without violence.
