Being less 'reliant' is a good thing; the U.S. doesn't want client states.

The issue will be Euro trust, will take decades to repair under more traditional U.S. leadership. U.S. will remain essential nation in EU affairs, but like a scorned woman the sting will persist for some time.

30-40% of many EU countries also suffer from populist or far right movements (FR/DEU/Italy anyone?) That is unfortunate on both sides of the Atlantic. M fundamental, and important here:

EU and U.S. positioned better when aligned, and worse if not. Cheers friend.

I'm American, so of course I'm predisposed to optimism of the future. However, I'm confident the Republic will endure Trump. While he might project strength, signs of strong domestic weakness and disapproval indicate three long but endurable years ahead.

The U.S. will return to a recognizable foreign policy when Trump's term ends. The transatlantic partnership is the heart of stability and to both EU and US. Expect domestic chest thumping will end once the explicit harm to both sides is revealed.

Together, both are stronger and more prosperous.

Glad to see the alliance coming together to a produce a plan for Ukraine. Together the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine have the tools to end Russia's war.

Will the Russians throw cold water on another peace offer?

This article is short sighted on U.S-EU relations. The EU should manage the short term relationship from deteriorating, keep the U.S. engaged in it's security and economy to compete but remain connected to an ally that will likely support our mutual interests - especially as it relates to China.

No it doesn't. According to a recent Quinnipac University Poll, 81% of Americans would agree with me.

American stands with Ukraine; even if our President doesn't.
