GM discontinued Chevy Volt because its customers figured out how to charge BEV on the go. BEVs are cheaper and substantially less complex, improving Total Cost of Ownership. Delivering EREV truck for light duty is an attempt to bring efficient product in lieu of fixing inefficient behavior.

EREV/PHEV are marketed for consumers who are shopping under the hype of range anxiety. After the purchase, most buyers figure out how to get their vehicles charged and drive almost exclusively on electricity, realizing they are hauling gas engine taking useful space and hurting efficiency.
