There have always been trailers and "let's all go to the lobby" bumpers. Back in the old continuous showings day, some of the short films would be thinly disguised ads, extolling the Bell System or pork.

Not when long distance calls were expensive. It was mainly local businesses and charities who had to pay someone to call the numbers.

I think it's an anti-shoplifting tactic. Supposedly casual shoplifters engaged by an employee will chicken out. Let's see if it works any better than locking up everything so no one can shoplift or buy things.

I'm white (Mom from New England, Dad from Kentucky) and older relatives are aunt/uncle, similar age are cousins, and younger are niece/nephew, even if they're not exactly that. Second cousin once removed is for genealogy charts.
