OK. IDK why there was one section of Filipino text when I searched for a definition of "veneer". (It translates to basically the same as what you get at the top in English; but I've no connection to the Philippines.)

Although, I did learn about Filipino, a modern standardized form of Tagalog.
One of the results when I searched for ç veneer" on Google on my phone. Conspiracy fantasists may get the facts wrong, “but often get the feelings right”. I would add a couple of thoughts. I see conspiracy fictions as a form of reassurance. This might sound odd: they purport to reveal “the terrifying truth”. But look at what they’re actually saying. Climate breakdown? It’s a hoax. Covid? All fake. Power? Just a tiny cabal of Jews. In other words, our deepest fears are unfounded. These fictions are highly conservative. Several of Harry Vox’s libels would have been familiar in England 800 years ago. Suspicion of science and technology, to judge by the widespread association of blacksmithing with dark arts, goes back to the iron age. Anti-vaxx myths in Europe are as old as vaccination. Conspiracy fictions tell us nothing has changed, the same bastards are in charge, this is an evil we know. My just-arrived hardcover copy of "Absolution" by Jeff Vandermeer. The cover features an illustration, on a black background, of a dark green alligator, with its head towards the top right and tail curved around in a U shape at the bottom left, showing you its back and its right side. There are a few dark yellow sunflowers around it, and it has what looks like white-silver paint (rendered in shiny silvery stuff) haphazardly applied to parts of its tail, the backs of its right legs, and behind its head, and above its right eye. Underneath the title in smaller letters, it says "A Southern Reach Novel", and above the author's name it says "Author of ANNIHILATION". The book fills most of the photo frame, which is taken from slightly below a head-on angle, facing down.
