The story of how Wisconsin author Sterling North's book "Rascal" became a Japanese anime "Araiguma Rascal" known the world over... and the story of Sterling's life. A book called "Starring Rascal," coming in late 2025.
I'm writing a book about the life of author Sterling North and the worldwide popularity of "Rascal" and its adaptations...

Of all the dubs of "Araiguma Rascal" - and there are many, I even discovered one for my book that Japanese superfans didn't know about - the German version has the most unusual lyrics...

I found it difficult to follow... :-) very "subculture," kind of a cross between "The Office" and a secret agent show?

I visited the setting of "Rascal," Sterling's childhood home, yesterday, giving a tour to his distant relative. It is a museum you can visit in Edgerton, WI. I'm writing a book about the worldwide influence of "Rascal."

Sterling's mother passed in 1914 and his father passed in 1962. "Rascal" is set in 1918, so the epidemic is part of the book, as he had a mild case. The book doesn't mention this, but he lost cousins and neighbors to it.

Yesterday I visited Sterling North's childhood home, today restored as a museum. In May, his daughter invited me to visit to see the archives of Sterling's notes. I'm writing a book about him.

Rawls' wife eventually moved to Janesville, WI, not far from where "Rascal" is set (in Edgerton, WI). She came to the Sterling North Society and gave a talk. Yesterday I was at Sterling's childhood home, restored today as a museum you can visit.

"Rascal" is an unusual book in that you can visit the place where it happened. Sterling's childhood home is restored as a museum. I was there yesterday!

When Sterling was in high school, he thought he was going to become a professional poet, like his older sister Jessica.

Yesterday I visited Sterling's house, now a museum. I also showed a friend the cemetery where Sterling's mother and father are buried.
