Yep. My dad was principled too. He left the firm that allowed the architects have final word over the engineers. But it's amazing how many people in the design world think they are brilliant artists.

I was raised by an engineer (structural, not automotive), and I suspect this atrocity came from the designers. Then the engineers were simply told to "make it work".
