The ongoing fall of King Condo, in Toronto. A critical part of the Canadian big city condo revolution is the role of presales - both to raise direct cash, and especially to serve as proof of viability for construction lenders. No pre-sales, no project financing.

I feel a binge of late '70s/early '80s "Pinto Music" coming on. As in, songs I would have heard in the family car on the way to school if my parents were dropping me off. Like this ridiculously syrupy 1982 solo by Doobie Brothers alumni Michael McDonald...

There has only been one renaming in Montreal in the last 15 yrs; in Vancouver, you could argue ABC is really a rebirth of the post-creepy NPA, but otherwise COPE, TEAM and the Greens are familiar labels; Vision was new, until it wasn't, and dominant until it wasn't, but hardly a flash in the plan.

Where there is more chaos - after two long periods of relative stability - is in Vancouver, where constant splits on the left and competing mayoral ambitions on the right have defined it for awhile.

In fact, one of Transition Montreal's headline reasons to exist is to provide an alternative to the 'two-party system' in Montreal, which is a fair description of the last four elxn cycles, assuming the polls hold largely in place for this one.

Montreal's system is actually very stable; urbanist-left Projet is, if I'm not mistaken, now the oldest continuous civic party in 🍁, first election wins in the mid-'00s. Ensemble is a renamed continuation of Equipe Denis Coderre, founded in 2013. Transition = basically left-splitters from Projet.

Can't sleep because I have a big idea. I used to love that feeling but now I just want to sleep first and then Do the Idea.

If we are that concerned (and we should be), don't we have more urgent concerns than patrol submarines?
