Perhaps no single item in the state budget was more important to House Dems, or emblematic of our values, than the protection of the free school meals. Despite GOP attempts to eliminate this critical offering, thanks to our advocacy tonight we passed a budget that protected that.

The bronze statue of Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson will be restored to its proper place after being stolen by vandals last year. Lt. Col. Jefferson served as part of the legendary Red Tails in World War II, a unit known for escorting bombers across Europe.

I am looking forward to our favorite Labor Day activity, standing with workers & walking in the annual Detroit Labor Day Parade in Corktown. It proceeds down Michigan Ave., & concludes at Roosevelt Park. It showcases the unity, power, & achievements of the labor movement.
